Causes and Consequences
Understanding Knee Injuries
The knee is a complex joint that is crucial to movement and stability. Knee injuries can occur due to sports activities, accidents, overuse, or degenerative conditions. These injuries can affect the bones, cartilage, ligaments, tendons, or muscles around the knee joint.
Causes of Knee Injuries
Common causes of knee injuries include:
Ligament Sprains: Injuries to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), medial collateral ligament (MCL), or lateral collateral ligament (LCL).
Patella Subluxations and Dislocations.
Meniscus Tears: Damage to the meniscus, the cartilage cushioning between the knee joint bones.
Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (Runner's Knee): Pain around the kneecap due to overuse, overload or misalignment/maltracking.
Tendonopathy/Tendonitis: Irritation of the patellar tendon (patellar tendinopathy) or quadriceps tendon (quadriceps tendinopathy).
Knee Bursitis: Inflammation of the bursae around the knee joint.
Osteoarthritis: Degenerative joint disease causing pain and stiffness in the knee.

• Tendonopathy – patella tendinopathy, quadriceps tendonopathy, distal hamstring tendinopathy • Post-operative knee rehabilitation - arthroscope, ACL reconstruction, patella stabilisation, chondral procedures, total knee replacement.
Knee Treatments Available
Our physiotherapy treatments are tailored to address the specific needs of each patient and may include:
Manual Therapy: Hands-on techniques like joint mobilisation, soft tissue massage, or myofascial release to reduce pain and improve joint mobility.
Exercise Therapy: Customised strengthening and stretching exercises to improve knee stability, flexibility, and function. Exercise to target and improve hip and pelvic control is also often used to help with knee symptoms.
Dry Needling
Functional Rehabilitation: Progressive rehabilitation programs help you return to normal activities, work, or sports quickly and safely.
Bracing or Taping: Application of supportive braces or taping techniques to provide stability and prevent further injury including cross bracing protocol for non-operative management of suitable ACL injuries.
