Understanding Hip & Groin Pain
Hip and groin pain can result from various underlying issues affecting the hip joint, muscles, ligaments, or tendons in the groin area. These conditions can arise from sports injuries, overuse, biomechanical issues, or degenerative conditions.
Causes of Hip & Groin Pain
Common causes of hip and groin pain include:
Hip Osteoarthritis: Degenerative joint disease causing pain and stiffness in the hip.
Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI): Abnormal contact between the bones of the hip joint, causing pain and limited movement.
Hip Labral Tears: Tears in the cartilage (labrum) surrounding the hip socket.
Muscle and Tendon Strains: Overstretching or tearing of muscles in the hip or groin area.
Hip Bursitis: Inflammation of the bursae (fluid-filled sacs) around the hip joint.
Groin Strains: Strains or tears in the inner thigh muscles (adductor muscles).
Sports Hernia (Athletic Pubalgia): Chronic groin pain due to weakness or tears in the abdominal or groin muscles.
Sacroiliac Joint (SIJ) Dysfunction.
Osteitis pubis/ pubic related groin pain. Pain originating from overload of the pubic bones and their joint (pubic symphysis).
